ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT :
B.Sc., Psychology degree is awarded by the University of Madras.
Department of Psychology was established to provide opportunity to young minds to understand human mind and behaviour with individual differences.
OBJECTIVE OF THE DEPARTMENT :
To sharpen them with basic human skills, parenting skills, counselling skills, personality development skills, mentor skills, interviewer skills, Human Resource facilitator skills, Organizational development practitioner skills, trainer skills, leadership skills, diagnosing skills, marketing skills and researcher skills.
Curriculum and Eligibility criteria for admission:
Candidates for admission to the first year of the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Psychology will be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations (Academic or Vocational Stream) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an Examination accepted as equivalent thereof by the Syndicate of the University of Madras. He or she could be from any Science, Arts, Commerce, Business, Computer Science, Accountancy or other stream.
Course is taught under Semester Pattern.
Choice Based Credit System (CBCS Pattern) is followed
Students are offered 26 papers in this course among which 22 papers are theoretical and 4 Papers are practical.

Sports Psychologist helping athletes to perform at peak levels. They function as trainers, consultants, or therapists. They offer therapy for issues like eating disorders or career transitions.
Forensic Psychologist applying psychology to criminal investigation and the legal issues
Special educators dealing with mentally retarded children

Health Psychologist focusing on the whole person and what influences their health status. This may include their socioeconomic status, education, background and behaviors that may have an impact on the disease, such as compliance with instructions and medication.
Neuropsychologist determining whether a person is likely to experience behavioral problems following suspected or diagnosed brain injury, such as a stroke.
