ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of English came into being in 1990 along with the inception of the College. The Department has 19 faculty members on its roll which includes highly experienced members. In its nascent stage, General English was offered to all the UG students as per University norms and has trained over 1500 students every year and many of whom are occupying prestigious positions all over the world. Today the potential of the department is rapidly recognized and it was upgraded with the introduction of B.A. English course in 2015, attracting the students far and wide.

OBJECTIVE OF THE DEPARMENT

    To make the students acquire adequate knowledge in English grammar and vocabulary and to develop their language and interpersonal skills.

    B.A. ENGLISH The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing B.A. English degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination in any stream from a recognized board of the country.

    • In addition to College Central Library, the department library provides text books and reference books which enable the teacher and the students to follow the curriculum for each semester.

  • LCD Projectors & Smart Class Room

  • Internet facilities for staff & Students

    • The Central Library with the latest books and Journals are extended to the staff and students. Internet facilities are also provided to augment their knowledge. Wi-Fi connections are available.

      The college is equipped with a digital library for staff and students to enrich their knowledge.


PROGRAMME/ COURSE OUTCOME

By the end of the course, students will be able to

  • Learn social and historical events from 14th to21st centuries and their impact on English writers and their works like poetry, drama and fiction written during these centuries.

  • Explore the origin and development of Indian Writing in English

  • Identify structures and patterns in language and linguistics.

  • Study different approaches in language and analyse basics of English phonetics, phonology, grammar, syntax, and semantics.

  • Know the specific issues of women and their writings

  • Learning literary theory from Aristotle to F. R. Leavis,

  • Make the students to familiar with journalism & Media.
